How It Works

Welcome to LittleLend! This platform lets you rent out baby and kids’ items to other parents in your area.

1. Create an Account

Registration

  1. Go to the registration page on the website

  2. Enter your details:

    • First and last name

    • Email address (this will be your username)

    • Password (minimum 8 characters)

  3. Click “Register”

Activate Your Account

  • After registering, you’ll receive an activation email

  • Click the activation link in the email (valid for 24 hours)

  • Your account is now active and you can log in

Note: You can only log in after activating your account via email.


2. Set Up Your Profile

After logging in, you can complete your profile:

Personal Information

  • Upload a profile photo

  • Add an “About me” description (let other users know who you are)

  • Set your language preference (Dutch or English)

Address Details

  • Check and update your address details if necessary

  • This address is used as the location for your items


3. Stripe Registration for Lenders

If you want to lend items, you must link a Stripe account to receive payments.

Why Stripe?

  • Payments are processed securely

  • Your earnings are automatically paid out to your bank account

  • All transactions are tracked

Link Your Stripe Account

  1. Go to your profile and click “Link Stripe Account”

  2. You’ll be redirected to Stripe where you’ll be asked for:

    • Business details (or personal details if you’re an individual)

    • Bank details (IBAN) for payouts

    • Identification (ID card or passport) for verification

  3. Complete verification:

    • Upload a photo of your ID

    • Provide all requested information

    • Accept Stripe’s terms

Verification Status

Your Stripe account can have different statuses:

  • Not linked: You haven’t created a Stripe account yet

  • Pending: Your account is being verified by Stripe

  • Active: You can receive payments

  • More information required: Stripe needs additional details

Note: You can only lend items once your Stripe account is fully verified and active.

Stripe Dashboard

Through your profile you can log in to the Stripe Express Dashboard to:

  • View your payouts

  • See your transaction history

  • Update bank account details


4. Add Items (Lenders)

Add an Item

  1. Go to “My Items” in your account

  2. Click “Add Item”

  3. Fill in the item details:

    • Title: Short, clear name (e.g., “Maxi-Cosi Car Seat”)

    • Description: Detailed description, condition, age, etc.

    • Category: Choose the right category (e.g., Car Seats, Strollers, Toys)

    • Age range: What age is the item suitable for?

    • Brand: Select the brand (if applicable)

    • Price per day: Set your rental price (in euros)

    • Photos: Upload at least 1 photo; multiple photos are allowed

      • You can select a main/cover photo

      • Use clear, well-lit photos

  4. Approval required?

    • You can choose whether renters can book instantly or require your approval first

    • If approval is required, you have 2 hours to accept a booking request

Manage Items

  • Edit items: Update title, description, price, or photos

  • Disable items: Make an item temporarily unavailable without deleting it

  • Delete items: Permanently remove (only possible if there are no active bookings)


5. Search & Rent Items (Renters)

Find Items

  1. Go to the search page

  2. Use filters to search:

    • Location: Find items near you (based on postcode)

    • Distance: Set a maximum distance (e.g., within 10 km)

    • Category: Filter by specific categories

    • Brand: Search for a specific brand

    • Age range: Filter by your child’s age

Check Availability

  • The calendar shows which dates are already booked

  • Select your preferred start and end date

  • The system automatically checks availability


6. Booking Process

Scenario 1: Instant Booking (No Approval Required)

  1. Select dates on the item detail page

  2. Choose insurance (optional, see section 7)

  3. Review price breakdown:

    • Rental price (number of days × price per day)

    • Deposit (€25 flat fee)

    • Platform fee (10% of rental price, minimum €1.50)

    • Stripe payment fee (€0.29)

    • Insurance (if selected)

  4. Click “Book and Pay”

  5. Pay via Stripe:

    • iDEAL (Dutch banks)

  6. Confirmation:

    • You’ll receive a confirmation email

    • The lender is notified

    • The booking status changes to “Confirmed”

Scenario 2: Booking with Approval

  1. Select dates and click “Request Approval”

  2. Write a message explaining why you’d like to rent the item

  3. Wait for approval:

    • The lender has 2 hours to respond

    • You’ll receive an email when approved or declined

  4. If approved:

    • You have 24 hours to complete payment

    • Follow the same payment steps as instant booking

  5. If declined:

    • You’ll receive an email with the reason

    • No charges will be made

Booking Statuses

Your booking can have different statuses:

  • Pending: Payment is being processed

  • Awaiting approval: Lender still needs to approve

  • Awaiting payment: Approved, payment not completed yet

  • Confirmed: Payment successful, booking is active

  • Completed: Rental period has ended

  • Cancelled: Booking was cancelled

  • Expired: Payment or approval window expired


7. Payments & Fees

Cost Structure for Renters

For each booking you pay:

  1. Rental price: Number of days × price per day

  2. Deposit: €25 (flat fee, refunded after the rental)

  3. Platform fee: 10% of the rental price (minimum €1.50)

  4. Stripe payment fee: €0.29 (for iDEAL transactions)

  5. Insurance (optional): Amount shown during booking

Example:

  • Rental price: 3 days × €5 = €15

  • Deposit: €25

  • Platform fee: €1.50 (10% of €15)

  • Stripe fee: €0.29

  • Total to pay: €41.79

Insurance

  • Optional insurance available during booking

  • Covers damage to the item during the rental period

  • Price is shown before you confirm the booking

Payment Methods

  • iDEAL: All Dutch banks

Payment Security

  • All payments are processed via Stripe

  • Your payment details are never stored by LittleLend

  • Payments are only released to the lender after the rental period ends


8. Payouts for Lenders

How Payouts Work

  1. During the booking:

    • The renter pays the full amount

    • The funds are held in your Stripe account

    • You can’t withdraw the funds yet

  2. After the rental period:

    • The system automatically checks that the rental has ended

    • The payout is triggered automatically by our system

    • The money is transferred to your bank account

  3. Payout timing:

    • Payouts are processed daily

    • Funds typically arrive within 1–3 business days

    • You’ll receive an email when your payout is processed

What You Receive

As a lender you receive:

  • Rental price: The full amount the renter paid for the rental

  • Additional earnings: Any late-return fees

You do NOT receive:

  • Platform fee (10% goes to LittleLend)

  • Stripe payment fee (€0.29 goes to Stripe)

  • Deposit (refunded to the renter)

  • Insurance (goes to LittleLend)

Track Your Payouts

  1. In your LittleLend account:

    • Go to “My Bookings”

    • Check the status of each booking

    • See when payouts were processed

  2. In your Stripe Dashboard:

    • Log in via your profile

    • View all payouts

    • Download invoices and statements

    • Verify your bank account details

Payout Status

  • Pending: Rental period hasn’t ended yet

  • Processing: Payout is being processed

  • Completed: Funds have been transferred to your bank account


9. Messages & Communication

Messaging System

After a confirmed booking, renter and lender can communicate:

  1. Access messages:

    • Go to “Messages” in your account

    • All conversations are linked to a specific booking

  2. Send a message:

    • Open a conversation or start a new one

    • Type your message

    • Click “Send”

  3. Notifications:

    • You’ll receive an email when a new message arrives

When to Use Messages

  • Make arrangements: Time and place for pickup/return

  • Ask questions: About using the item

  • Provide updates: If plans change

  • Report issues: For damage or other problems

Note: The messaging system is only available for confirmed bookings.


10. Cancellations & Refunds

Cancellation by the Renter

  1. Before the rental period starts:

    • Go to “My Bookings”

    • Click the booking you want to cancel

    • Click “Cancel”

    • Provide a reason

    • Confirm the cancellation

  2. Refund:

    • You’ll receive a full refund (excluding the Stripe payment fee of €0.29)

    • Includes rental price, deposit, and platform fee

    • Refunds are processed within 5–10 business days

    • You’ll receive a confirmation email

Note: You can’t cancel if the rental period has already started.

Cancellation by the Lender

  1. Before the rental period starts:

    • Go to “My Bookings”

    • Click the booking

    • Click “Cancel”

    • Provide a reason (this will be sent to the renter)

  2. Consequences:

    • The renter receives a full refund

    • You won’t receive any compensation

Refund Process

  1. Cancellation request:

    • Status changes to “Cancellation Requested”

    • You’ll receive a confirmation email

  2. Processing:

    • Our system processes the refund automatically

    • This usually happens within 24 hours

  3. Refund:

    • The money is returned via Stripe

    • This can take 5–10 business days

    • You’ll receive an email when the refund is completed

Deposit Refund

After a normal rental period:

  • On-time return: Full deposit (€25) is refunded

  • Late return: Late fees are deducted from the deposit

  • Damage: Any damage costs may be deducted (if no insurance)


11. Reviews & Ratings

Leaving a Review

After a booking, both parties can review each other:

  1. Review reminder:

    • You’ll receive an email 3 days after the rental ends

    • Click the link in the email or go to “My Bookings”

  2. Write your review:

    • Give a rating from 1–5 stars

    • Add an optional comment

    • Click “Submit”

  3. Automatic reviews:

    • If you don’t leave a review within 7 days

    • A 5-star review will be added automatically

    • This prevents users from being penalized due to missing reviews

Why Reviews Matter

  • For lenders: Higher ratings lead to more bookings

  • For renters: Good reviews build trust

  • For the community: Reviews help others make informed choices

Viewing Reviews

  • All reviews are visible on profile pages

  • The average rating is shown on item pages

  • Reviews cannot be removed (only by admin in case of abuse)
